Submitting a recording as a Practice Sample
To Health Education and Training Institute
Each practice sample should meet the following guidelines:

1.       Our coding of these recordings is only for the purpose of increasing
competency in the use of Motivational Interviewing in individual work. (Our
expertise is only in the reliability of an individual session. The coded
feedback is not intended for use in a research project.)

2.       Recordings can be sent in electronic format via email (to send large
files, please contact us and we will send you an invitation to use Boxnet for
this purpose. Click here for a video on how to open an account with Boxnet
and how to use it send us a recording). We also accept CD’s and cassette
tapes.

3.        It must be an interview with a client 18 years or older (or if
younger, permission by a parent or guardian is necessary), a supervision
session and/or a role-play. Whenever possible, the work sample should
occur on or before a client’s third session.

4.        The session must include only two individuals: yourself and the
client. Couple and groups sessions are not appropriate as they are difficult
to code appropriately.

5.        Signed permission from the client must be obtained for your own
records. For an example please click here: Client Consent.

6.         Please submit a Certification of Consent to HETI with your recording.

7.        The interview must be at least 15 minutes long. Partial interviews
with different clients cannot be combined. The interview must be
continuous and may not be edited.

8.        Both your voice and the client’s voice must be clearly audible. Check
the sound before sending the recording to ensure quality.

9.        The recorded interview will be coded and feedback sent within two
weeks of receipt.

10.        Half hour phone coaching consultations are available upon request:

11.        Please label the recording with your NAME, ORGANIZATION, EMAIL
and DATE of the session. If sending a hard copy, mail the recorded
interview along with the original signed Certification of Consent. Please
include stamped/self-addressed envelope with any hard copies to ensure a
speedy return.
