• Our coding of these recordings is only for the purpose of increasing
    competency in the use of Motivational Interviewing in individual work.
    (Our expertise is only in the reliability of an individual session. The
    coded feedback is not intended for use in a research project.)

  • The interview must be with a client 18 years of age or older (if younger,
    permission from a parent or guardian is necessary), a supervision
    session, and/or a role-play. Whenever possible, the work sample should
    occur on or before the client's third session.

  • The session must include only two individuals: yourself and the client.
    Couple and groupsessions are not appropriate as they are difficult to
    code properly.

  • The interview must be at least 20 minutes long. Partial interviews with
    different clients cannot be combined. The interview must be continuous
    and may not be edited.

  • Both your voice and the client's voice must be clearly audible. Check the
    sound beforesubmitting the recording to ensure quality.

  • Signed permission from the client must be obtained for your own records.
