Ethics, Law, and Substance Abuse

Ethical decisions are often complex and multifaceted, as well as defying
simple solutions. There are many "gray areas" that demand both reflection
and the use of decision-making skills.
This class will provide you with the opportunity to evaluate boundaries when
working with people, and to learn models of ethical decision-making. We will
explore exercises that help define and resolve ethical problems at work. We
will also discuss the link between the quality of ethics and the quality of care.

Angry Boys, Angry Men
Many males are socialized in their families, their communities, and the culture to be violent, and
to use anger as often the only dimension of their emotional life. Anger can promote violence
against others and frequently leads to self-destructive behavior, i.e. chemical dependency. Angry
males often physically, verbally, or sexually abuse women and children. Some boys and men
come to counseling because of their history of violence, while others come because they have
depression, addiction, or relationship problems. Males often neglect their physical, emotional,
intellectual, and spiritual self. Through this workshop you will learn how to begin the healing for
angry boys and men.

This course is taught by
Stephen Andrew, LCSW, LADC, CGP.
Working with Boys, Working with Men

Based on the latest research in child development as we begin to understand boys, and boys
as they become men, we become aware of the significant impact of boys being disconnected
from relationships and feeling an emotional dampening of their heart. In this context, they
develop a great deal of shame. This workshop will talk about treatment, techniques, and
reconnecting the authentic self in the relational context.
