Motivational Interviewing in Northern Maine

Stephen Andrew will be leading this training, sponsored by AdCare Educational, Inc through the Maine Behavioral Health Workforce Development Collaborative.

This two-day training will delve further into this evidence and practice-based communication method for the use of Motivational Interviewing (MI).  Motivational Interviewing is a person-centered, evidence-based directive method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence.
After reviewing the underlying spirit and principles of MI, we will focus on practical exercises to help participants strengthen empathic reflection skills, and practice complex reflection skills. We will focus on recognizing and eliciting change talk and practice rolling with resistance/ discord. Research evidence will be reviewed for the efficacy of MI and for the importance of it in serving persons involved in criminal justice with an emphasis on the worker’s relationship with the person served toward positive outcomes.
