Motivational Interviewing Online Course

We have worked very hard to make our online Motivational Interviewing course informative, relevant, interactive, interesting, and fun. Access the material within each of the four weekly sections of the course on your own time, from the comfort of your home or office. The learning process is varied across several modalities, to maximize your opportunity to familiarize yourself with Motivational Interviewing and how it can be practically applied in your practice.

During this online course, you will learn:

  • The fundamentals of Motivational Interviewing

  • The core OARS strategies of the Motivational Interviewing process

  • Ways to identify and elicit change talk

  • Strategies for exploring and resolving ambivalence.

Each weekly section consists of five steps:

  • You'll first watch a prepared online presentation

  • Read a selection of relevant assigned articles

  • Watch a video of Motivational Interviewing in action featuring Stephen Andrew LCSW, LADC, CCS, CGP

  • Take a quiz with questions to review the material you've learned

  • Finally join an online discussion forum where you can answer posted question and read and respond with your classmates

The main text for Motivational Interviewing is Motivational Interviewing: Helping People Change by William R. Miller and Stephen Rollnick. While it is not required reading for this online course, we enthusiastically recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about Motivational Interviewing.
