This two-day training is an introduction to the evidence-based clinical method of Motivational Interviewing, an effective approach in the treatment of challenging clients, and provide participants with an opportunity to explore creative ways of integrating these approaches into an effective therapeutic intervention. Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, evidence-based, directive method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence. After orientation to the underlying spirit, structure, and principles of Motivational Interviewing, practical exercises will help participants strengthen empathy skills, recognize and elicit patient change talk, and roll with resistance.

Programs cancelled by HETI due to weather conditions, trainer availability, or lack of participants will be rescheduled or fully refunded. Cancellations received seven business days in advance will receive full refund minus processing fees. There will be a $25 fee for cancellations received six business days or fewer before a program. Fees will not be refunded for "no shows" or cancellations received on the day of the program.
