Abigail Szotkowski, LCPC-C
Abigail Szotkowski is a Motivational Interviewing trainer and mental health counselor with a strong foundation in counselor education and psychology. I completed my graduate training in the Counselor Education program at the University of Southern Maine, and earned my undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Maine at Orono. Prior to graduate school, I spent several years working in community mental health supporting adults, children, and families in building skills and connecting with essential resources. I now own a private practice in Portland, Maine, where I integrate Motivational Interviewing principles to support meaningful, client-centered change.
My Motivational Interviewing work has been shaped through mentorship and advanced training. I completed my internship with Stephen Andrew, LCSW and have participated in and co-facilitated several HETI trainings throughout the years. I also co-facilitate a weekly Motivational Interviewing Learning Community, have completed the HETI Train-the-Trainer program twice, and am currently working toward membership in the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). My training style is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and practical application, helping professionals build confidence and fluency in MI while staying true to its spirit.
