Supervision & Coaching Using Motivational Interviewing

Supervisors, Managers, and Coaches are invited to take this training. This training will include effective methods for supervising workers using a Motivational Interviewing (MI) framework.  This training will deal with ways in which the spirit, techniques, and concepts of MI may benefit coaches and supervisors in their efforts to support and motivate the staff they supervise in carrying out their job responsibilities. The training will involve exercises employing the material presented in previous trainings in supervisory situations.  We will provide an opportunity to explore creative ways of integrating effective interventions with staff members in motivating them to grow in skill in their work. Motivational Interviewing will be presented as a client-centered, collaborative, and evidence-based model of treatment. It is a win-win for clients and agency staff alike.

Goals of this workshop are:

  • To teach managers and supervisors how to provide accurate feedback in a supportive way, using the clinician’s strengths and in a Motivational Interviewing-adherent manner

  • To teach managers and supervisors how to guide colleagues in the work of evaluating their own practice

  • How to create a safe place to discuss Motivational Interviewing practice issues

The workshop will be led by Stephen Andrew and will be conducted online using the Zoom video-conferencing platform.

  • Excellent training- I definitely learned so much and relearned so much which I didn't even know I had forgotten. I came out of it with a new sense of enthusiasm.
