How effectively is a clinician using Motivational Interviewing (MI)? The Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) behavioral coding system helps answer this question and provides a framework for giving meaningful feedback to support continued MI skill development.
This special three-day training is designed to help participants build a strong foundation in the current MITI 4.2.1, and then reconvene in April to learn about the new version of the MITI following its release.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is ideal for MI practitioners, managers, coaches, supervisors, trainers, and researchers who want to improve their MI skills, strengthen their ability to evaluate MI practice, provide effective feedback, prepare for research using the MITI, and/or supervise, support, and coach others in developing their MI skills.
October 28 & 29, 2026: MITI 4.2.1 Coding
During the first two days, participants will learn how to use the MITI 4.2.1 to evaluate Motivational Interviewing practice and help shape feedback for improved MI skillfulness.
Participants will engage in learning through well-paced, immersive, and highly interactive discussions using written materials, videos, audio recordings, exercises, and multiple opportunities to practice coding.
Participants will also explore how MITI coding can inform coaching and feedback and will have opportunities to develop feedback plans for a variety of scenarios. Participants will practice delivering coding and coaching feedback.
April 22, 2027: Introducing the New MITI
A new version of the MITI is coming!
Participants will reconvene in April for a one-day workshop dedicated to the newly released MITI. Together, we'll explore what has changed from MITI 4.2.1, what the changes mean for coding and feedback, and how to begin using the new version in practice.
Participants who already have experience with MITI 4.2.1 and only want to learn about the new version may register for the April workshop separately.
