She holds an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education and a bachelor's degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences. Some of the positions she has held include one-on-one behavioral support in individual homes and in schools, children's case management, case management with women who were pregnant or had young children and were struggling with substance use, counseling in a medically assisted treatment program for opioid use, and outpatient substance use counseling providing services to individuals and groups in an office setting as well as in several different high schools across western Maine.
Melissa attended a basic motivational interviewing training with Stephen a few years ago and fell in love with motivational interviewing, instantly seeing the ways that motivational interviewing changed conversations by using specific skills to convey empathy and compassion, hold people in their suffering and meet people where they dream. Since then she has taken several trainings with Stephen and Kelley and continues to grow, learn and practice motivational interviewing.
Melissa grew up on a farm in northern Maine and now lives in western Maine with her husband, two young children and their dog, cat, and multiple reptiles. Melissa enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking and eating food, reading, gardening, hiking and camping.
