The HETI Certificate Program of Advanced Motivational Interviewing is designed for anyone who would like to enhance their practice of Motivational Interviewing, or for those who are looking for a way to demonstrate their current level of advanced practice.

 

The goal of the program is to demonstrate consistent proficiency in the practice of Motivational Interviewing.

Proficiency is demonstrated by the following:

• A combined score of four (4) on Relational Components (Partnership & Empathy)

• A combined score of four (4) on Technical Components (Cultivating Change Talk & Softening Sustain Talk)

• 50% or greater of all Reflections will be Complex Reflections

• At least a 2 to 1 ratio of Reflections to Questions

Our program asks that members produce three out of five consecutive submissions that are coded as proficient before we award the certificate. Participants have up to one year to complete the program. Work and progress will be evaluated by submitting audio recorded sessions with a client/patient, a real/role play with a friend or co-worker, or on the phone with one of HETI’s Simulated Patients/Clients. The recordings will be coded using the MITI 4.2.1.

Our Certificate Program is overseen by Melissa Gilman LADC, CCS who meets with participants individually to review coding results and provide coaching to empower participants to develop strategies and plans to increase their MI spirit and skills.

 

As a member, you will receive coded results (including ratios and global ratings) along with narrative feedback on your aptitude in Motivational Interviewing spirit, structure, and skills.  Your coded results will include recommendations on how to increase your skill level as you strive for proficiency.

 

The next phase of your program will be to show consistent proficiency. This will be demonstrated once you are able to provide three consecutive recordings indicating proficiency.

 

Recommended Prerequisites:

This program requires knowledge of Motivational Interviewing skills and spirit, and we recommend that you complete Foundational Motivational Interviewing and Motivational Interviewing: Advancing Practice before registering for this program.

Please complete the application form including payment information, and include a 20-minute baseline recording.  Upon receipt you will be contacted by Melissa Gilman with next steps and your start date.
